Artistic residency in Villa Roberti

Italy, Brugine 14. November - 28. November 2022

Artistic residency supported by Cultural Endowment of Estonia

During my residency at Villa Roberty, I embarked on an enriching journey of exploration and artistic creation centered around the villa's magnificent frescoes painted in 1553–1554. Immersed in this inspiring environment, I delved into two creative projects.

Throughout my stay, I dedicated time to crafting the script for my upcoming poetry book, beautifully incorporating the unique nuances of the Kadrina dialect. The residency provided me with a serene and focused atmosphere, enabling me to channel my creativity and bring forth the essence of the local language and culture.

In addition to my literary pursuits, I engaged in the meticulous process of replicating the villa's frescoes using oil paints and guash. This intricate task allowed me to intimately connect with the artistic techniques and intricacies employed by the original creators, immersing myself in their artistic world. Furthermore, I diligently prepared materials and plans for the creation of a tapestry that would serve as a faithful reproduction of one of the frescoes' exquisite details. The intricate process involved careful selection of yarns, weaving techniques, and attention to every minute aspect to ensure a true representation of the chosen element.

As the residency drew to a close, I had the wonderful opportunity to share my artistic journey with the public through a workshop held at Villa Roberty. Participants were invited to explore the villa's frescoes, capturing their essence through sketches. Guided by my expertise, the workshop extended for eight immersive hours, during which the participants learned the intricate art of creating a small tapestry replica of their chosen fresco detail. The workshop proved to be a memorable experience, fostering creativity, engagement, and a deeper appreciation for the artistry found within Villa Roberty's walls. With a total of twelve enthusiastic participants, the workshop served as a celebration of artistic collaboration and shared passion.

My residency at Villa Roberty not only provided me with an ideal setting to conduct research and artistic exploration but also offered a platform for me to share my creative process with others. It was a transformative experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the rich tapestry of art and history, leaving an indelible mark on my artistic journey.
